3300 keeps rebooting
« on: February 13, 2009, 08:13:35 AM »
H guys,

I have a problem where a 3300 keeps rebooting itself - I may be correct in saying that the hard drive is faulty.

(1) The 3300 reboots and the minor, major & critical lights flash red, then amber and returns to green
(2) I'm able to get to the web interface but my logon credentials are not accepted (it hangs at a validating username)
(3) ping

What software version are you running?  We had a hard drive failing on us and b/c we had 8.0 UR5 it was booting off of partition 4 so we adjusted the boot location back to partition 1 and it came up on the older version of 8.  Granted we had to do a restore because the programming was out of date but it worked until we could get a new hard drive in.

Likely not the case, but, Does a 3300 reboot every 5 minutes or so, when a critical alarm threshold is reached, the way that a Sx-200 does?

We leave our 200 critical thresholds set to 0, as even if they are set to 99%, for example, it could cause the system to repeatedly reboot, when you are not totally out of service.  For example, if you lost connection to 1 of 5 cabinets, you would have still lost 1 complete cabinet (1 unavailable out of 1 possible bay=100% of that bay unavailable =more than 99%=reboot, over and over until you change the threshhold, or fix the problem.

In general, an alarm on the 3300 does not cause a reboot.   I'd guess since this thread started Friday at 11:00, you've already resolved the issue so please let us know what you found.

The browser login will fail until the system is all the way up.  So the next thing to do is to plug a serial cable into the maint port and watch what messages it is giving you on boot up.
