Mitel SX50 - Printing outgoing calls.
« on: August 06, 2011, 01:22:09 AM »
I know this is wrong thread to post on but I am in need of help badly.

We have mitel sx50 which prints outgoing calls to Espon dot matix printer. It prints extension and number dailed along with time. Its 24? pin serial from mitel box to espon dot matrix printer.

I want to hook that serial from mitel to laptop so it prints on computer instead of wasting paper, space in office. My laptop does not have serial port so I got 24pin to usb converter but I need to find a program that recognize the printer and logs/prints outgoing calls on computer.

Please advise.

Thanks

I think HyperTerm is still supplied with Windows.
You may be able to use Putty - not sure about the printing but it will capture.
Procomm will do it but you're going pau ~$120 US for it.

I tried that but When i open hyperterm on COM3 nothing displays on my screen. I tried setting wake up call so it would print but nothing shows up on hyper term. The 24pin to usb shows up as USBPrinting device under device manager.

I tried connecting to all COM's just to see which COM it was using COM3 was only one that opened but nothing happens on screen.

Thanks

It's been a long time since I've had to do this, but you make have to strap some pins.

I can remember what I did on DB25 connectors.
Do this on both ends.
Strap 4 & 5 togther.
Strap 6, 8 & 20 together.

You'll have to figure out what that translates to on the DB9 connector.

I was using wrong type of cable. I called startech.com and asked for help and they advised me with these cable so it displays as COM ports on computer then I can use hyperterminal, putty to access those COM ports.

Just got those cables and I tried to open hyperterm with COM1 port. (thats what its assigned on device manager)

Hyperterm says unable to open check port settings. Its currently at defaults. 9600bits-per-second, 8 data bits, parity is none, stop bits is 1, flow control is none.

What combinations would you suggest me try?/

Thanks

You choices for baud is 1200, 2400, 4800 and 9600.   No way for me to tell what you're set to.
Try each.   When connected hold the <ctl> key and press q a couple of times to be sure it's not waiting for a 'xon'.

If nothing works there then I'd try doing the pin straps again.

How do you have this connected to the machine com1 would be the built in serial typically. Those settings are the right speeds, bits, and parity.
