Mitel 5224 Error: "Option 128 Missing"
« on: May 19, 2011, 04:50:15 PM »
Hi All,

Having an issue when I connect any of our Mitel 5224 phones to an ethernet cable in our office.  It says, "DHCP: Discover  Option 128 missing" as the phone is trying to boot up.

This happens with any phones that I unplug and replug.

I'm the new tech person in our office, and have somewhat stumbled into this role so I don't know a ton about server vernacular and such.  Is there a setting on our server computer that I need to toggle in order to fix this?

Thank you much!

Try plugging it into a know good jack.
If it works then you need to correct your network.

If it still doesn't work, then try this trick:
Boot the phone while holding the 7 key.
Program up phone as a TW phone by entering the IP address of your PBX.
Save and let boot.
If it comes up, then boot again while holding the 7 key and delete the TW settings.
Save and let boot.

This should solve the problem.

I usually receive this error on my 5312 or 5340 IP phones when the port its going back to in the PoE switch isn't configured to be part of the correct VLAN. However Ralphs advice is quite solid as well :).

sounds to me that the phone is looking to connect to a 3300 not a 5000. Make sure the phone knows IP add of the 5000, then it should be able to download the correct code off the 5000
