Micollab client forward compatability?

We are planning an upgrade of our Mitel environment including upgrading Micollab from v9.6 to v9.8.

We have around 800 critical phone users and ideally we want to perform a phased roll out of the updated client software.  I've seen 2 different verdicts on whether it is compatible or not so wondering what the thoughts are on here.  Our last Micollab client upgrade caused us a lot of problems all be it that was a major version from I think 7.8 to the current 9.6 so it was completely different in both look and feel and backend operation where as this is a fairly minor version.

Has anyone had experience running a slightly version such as this after a server upgrade and does it work without issue?

And is their anything significantly different in the latest version that we'd either need to configure from the server side or that would be fundamentally different from a user experience?
