Mitel 250/5000 External Dial By Name Option
« on: Yesterday at 03:50:58 PM »
Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me understand how the Mitel 250/HX5000 controller generates the directory list associated to the "press # for the company directory" option.
I've read some things making me think it is tied to the "description" listed under the Phones\Local menu and other information making me thing it is related to creating a mailbox + recording a mailbox greeting.

Our current listing is a bit of a mess because we had a second location with its own controller which was shutdown without any sort of "decommissioning" - so extensions for the closed office/offline controller are still listed under the # option. On-top of that, using the # for firstname or lastname doesn't really seem to produce the expected results and if I manually use 1/3 to go through the next/previous options, things aren't in an alphabetical order.

One thing I've read is that the Description field is supposed to be entered as "lastname, firstname" but DB Programming doesn't allow me to even type a comma in this box.

Any insight would be appreciated.

ALesher04,

The Directory is based on the description, and it is lastname, firstname, but remember to have a space after the, as that is how it determines where the first name starts.

If the mailbox is associated with an extension/phone number, then you have to make that change under the Phones or the Hotdesk/Phantom section and not the mailbox itself.

If the mailbox is disassociated then you can do it right at the mailbox itself.

Thanks,

TE

TE,
Thanks for the quick reply & clarification
I believe everything is setup as an associated mailbox.
For some reason, I cannot type a "," in the in the description on the Phones page of Database Programming. I'm not sure if that's some kind of known bug?
I just tried changing description through the MiVoice webportal instead of Database programming and that seems like it may have worked.
I launched back into Database Programming and the change from the web portal is present - I'll have to test functionality.

Any suggestions on how to remove directory listings associated to a controller that no longer is online?

Thank you,
Andrew

It's not really bug, but a change... just put it in as LASTNAME FIRSTNAME with a space between. If a comma was there it is from old software versions and as soon as you go to edit it, the comma will be removed/invalid and you will have to replace it with a space.

To remove old directly listings from non-existent controllers, you will have to remove the controller from programming.

ALesher04,

If the phone is from the other node you will need to use Online Monitor to modify it.

If you don't need it, then you can just delete it as well.

Personally, I always delete the entire node when they are decommissioned, but whomever did it probably didn't think about what issues there would be.

There are very few reasons to keep a node that is no longer up.

Anyway, to delete a node you go to the nodes section. System > Devices and Feature Codes > Nodes

Right-Click on the Node you want to get rid of and select delete. It should ask you if you want to delete associated connections and just say yes to any that come up.

Thanks,

TE
