Mitel 5000 phone extension not displayed in call history
« on: November 04, 2020, 03:51:56 PM »
Hello,
We have phone system Mitel 5000 and phones Mitel 8528. When someone call from a desktop phone
cell phone and the call is missed we see in the cell phone call history our main phone line number.
We cannot see in the cell phone call history the extension phone number. For example we place
a call from 613-314-2257 ext. 298 to cell phone and in the cell phone call history we see only
613-314-2257. There is a contact on the cell phone with the number 613-314-2257.

How I can configure our Mitel 5000 system to send the ext. numbers in the caller ID for
external calls to cell phone ?

You want the cell phone call history to display the extension number?

Hi DND,

Yes. When I call from my desktop phone with ext. number 298 my cell phone I would like to
see in the cell phone call history the full calling number 613-314-2257 ext. 298. Now I see
in the cell phone call history only the main calling number 613-314-2257.

Can I achieve this goal by changing the Caller ID settings in Mitel 5000 ?

The only way you can do this is if you have a DID assigned to your extensions -AND- they send their own DID as their outgoing caller ID. So if your main number is 613-314-2257, but your DID is 613-555-1298, would could have your extension send that number and since it would be unique to your phone, you would have it saved in your contacts as your office number. Otherwise, would would have to have each DID registered with your carrier with a different Caller ID Name record, and they are very unlikely to do that.

Hi acejavelin,

How can I assign DID to my extension 298 ? I went to the below path in our Mitel 5000 system:
\System\Trunk-Related Information\Call Routing Tables\1\
I see the following record there:

(Pattern: 613-278-2134) (Description: 613-278-2134) (Ring-In Type : Single) (Ring-In Destination: 298)

When an outside caller dial the 613-278-2134 my extension 298 rings. But when I call my cell phone
from my extension 298 I see the main phone line number (not the number 613-278-2134).

Set the Outbound Caller ID Number on your device, the Call Routing Table is only for inbound calls.

Go to System\Devices and Feature Codes\Phones\298
Look for the Calling Party Number field and enter 6132782134

And go to System\Devices and Feature Codes\CO Trunk Groups\XXXXX (whatever your trunk group is) and make sure that "Force Trunk Group Calling Party Name and Number" is not enabled.

Remember that this will also mean that anytime you call a customer from your desk phone, you are giving them your direct number.

krasi69,

I got your e-mail and it looks as though you got some great advice already, but there are a few things you need to be aware of in order to 'try' to make this work; there is no guarantee here.

1. The Carrier (the company that provides trunks to your system) has to support the ability for the system (MiVO-250) to send out the Calling Party Number (CPN)

-- In this case you are stating that your main number goes out regardless of what you put in there.

2. The MiVO-250 has to be configured to allow for your CPN to be sent out.

-- This may or may not have been configured, but I doesn't look to be; from what I read.

So, let's look at what you need to make this work on the MivO-250 and see if that fixes your problem.

If you have a PRI or ISDN Trunking that supports NI-2
Go to System > Devices and Feature Codes > CO Trunk Groups > 92xxx (typically starts at 92001):

If you have SIP
Go to System > Devices and Feature Codes > SIP Peers > SIP Trunk Groups > 92xxx (nothing is here by default) > Trunk Group Configuration:

Regardless of which on you have at this point they should look somewhat similar; depending on software version.

Anyway, the feature that you are looking for is Force Trunk Group Calling Party Name and Number and we want to make sure this is turned off.

If you want it to send out the Original Incoming Caller ID instead of your personal DID then you would need to make sure that Propagate Original Caller ID is set to Yes. Since this isn't what you are requesting make sure it is set to No. Also for this feature to work the Carrier has to support the use of Non-Native Caller-ID which means they would have to allow you to send out the CPN of a number you don't own; most don't like this.

Now that you have verified that you can go to your extension and make sure the following things are setup.

Go to System > Devices and Feature Codes > Phones > 298:

Set Calling Party Number to 6132782134 so that any call made out of your phone will send out that CPN.

Also, if you wanted to send out the Original Incoming Caller ID instead of your personal DID then you would need to make sure that this flag is set to yes on your phone: Propagate Original Caller ID on Transfer. Since this is not what you want you need to make sure this flag is set to No.

Go to System > Devices and Feature Codes > Phones > 298 > Flags > Propagate Original Caller ID on Transfer: No

Once you have verified all of these changes have been made then you can test it out.

IF it doesn't work then most likely the Carrier doesn't support OR isn't configured to support the MiVO-250 to send out its own CPN.

Thanks,

TE
