One way audio for 5220 phones through NAT
« on: August 13, 2020, 02:33:38 PM »
I'm trying to setup a Mitel 5220 IP phone (not using SIP) to work through a NAT (ubiquiti Edgerouter X).
I've forwarded the ports, and it can make and receive calls fine, but it doesn't receive call audio.

Internet searching shows I need to go to System\Devices and Feature Codes\Phones\Specific Phone\IP Settings and change the 'NAT Address Type' to 'NAT' for that phone,
but I can't find any NAT address type options in the system.

Is it possible to run a 5220 using Minet through a NAT?

I'm Running MiVoice Business  8.0 SP3 PR3 on a 3300 MXe-III

You're blending two systems here.

Internet searching shows I need to go to System\Devices and Feature Codes\Phones\Specific Phone\IP Settings and change the 'NAT Address Type' to 'NAT' for that phone,
but I can't find any NAT address type options in the system.

Those are programming menus for the MiVoice Office 250 or Mitel 5000.

This indicates you are running the MiVoice Business or Mitel 3300.

AFAIK, you aren't able to run remote IP phones off this system. You must utilize a teleworker setup with a Mitel Border Gateway or have a VPN in place.

The MiVoice Business does not support phones connected via NAT except with the use of a Mitel Border Gateway, either stand alone or as part of a MiCollab Server...

As NEPhoneGuy stated, I think you are confused... The options you found are for a different system than the MiVoice Business system you have, remember that Mitel has multiple different platforms that share common devices (phones), but that doesn't mean that all systems have the same capabilities.

Is it possible to run a 5220 using Minet through a NAT with a MiVoice Business system? No, not without a Mitel Border Gateway server

Thanks for the info everyone.  I suspected that was the case as every internet hit I found that said that was related to 5000/250, but I wanted to be sure.

I will stick a switch in front of the router, or look into a bridging config for it.
