Call routing back to original answerer

Happy Friday everyone.

In our office, we prefer to NOT use voice mail. We want callers to always get a person.

How do I set up call routing so that if Jane Doe, extension 1010, answers an incoming call, transfers it to John Smith extension 1020, but if John Smith doesn't answer after XX seconds, the call rings back to Jane Doe?

That way, the caller doesn't get a voicemail. Instead, they get a person who picks it back up and says "It looks like John is away from his desk, what can I do for you?"

Make sure that System Forwarding is not setup on the extensions and that the Recall timer is set to the time you want to alert the phone.

By default the Transfer Recall Destination is their own, but verify that too.

OK, so I need to disable the System Forwarding flag for each extension.

Got it.

Will this still allow for setting up dynamic extension? I think that's what it is called where it'll ring both the desk phone and the cell phone.

Andyring,

You don’t have to turn off the system forwarding flag; although that will work.

All you have to do is make sure there are no system forwarding paths programmed on the extension. If it isn’t programmed then it doesn’t forward regardless if the flag is set or not.

As for DEE that is setup by creating User profiles for each extension that needs it. You will also want to add the two feature codes to each phone so the user can control it.

364 = DEE On/Off
388 = Handoff

It isn’t a requirement, but you may want to create the Configuration Assistant and assign a DID to it so they can control it remotely as well. If you do make sure you change the passcode on the phones so it isn’t default so other people can’t easily “hack” into the users profile.

TE or others,

I want to make sure I'm in the right place. Is this in:

System>Devices and Feature Codes>Phones>extension number>Forwarding Paths>

Right now, there is 1 forwarding path listed which looks like:

Forwarding Path           Description
>1                              Voice Mail

Is that the forwarding path I delete?

Yes, that would be the forwarding path you would need to get rid of.

What you can do to test this theory is to go into the flags of the phone and shut off System Forwarding.
