Adding SIP device to Paging
« on: February 26, 2019, 10:53:49 AM »
I have a Viking PA-IP SIP device/Amplifier and I am trying to add it to the paging zones but only allows IP devices.

To my knowledge you cannot do this. A SIP device cannot be a member of a page group.

SIP devices do not register via MAC address, but by authentication credentials. SIP devices are not capable of being paged in the normal way like IP or digital phones, these type of devices basically just answer a "call" and open an audio path for paging. To the system they are just a dumb SIP phones and not capable of receiving a "page".

You could open up a phone and snip the speakerphone wires then connect to paging for a bit of rigged work around - definitely seen it done before.

Also, have had gotten good uses out of SNOM devices. They are sip so you can't add to a page group but you can get them to auto answer or act as an external ringer. Auto answer is great for calling the extension and being picked up immediately.

SOLVED! I just added it as a sip phone and used the extension as the page. I just need to add the server IP and the credentials in the device. Thanks for your inputs

So you were able to add it to a group of phones for a group page?

No, I just gave it an extension as a SIP phone and in the device software added the server IP and username and password that is used for authentication. This way I can added it to the Keymaps as Page Extension # and enable auto answer
