 What is a Zombie Phone? (Mitel 3300 & SX2000)

Sometimes in the Mitel 3300 maintenance logs you will see and entry that reports a "Zombie Phone".

The cause of this is when a Mitel telephone has hung up, the PBX signals the far end to disconnect the call and there is a delay on the far end in doing so.   When this happens the far end continues to stream packets but the phone is no longer accepting them.   The Mitel 3300 reports this as a "Zombie Phone" in the logs.   This is usually seen in relation to a carrier that is not responding to disconnects quickly enough.

This does not create a problem for the PBX but may generate a lot logs.   It can safely be ignored.
