Unresolved slips - Mitel SX2000 T1/PRI
« on: April 24, 2012, 05:06:49 PM »
I have a building that has numerous slips. So many slips that faxes do not work but not so much that voice traffic is not affected. Typically in the area of 570 an hour.

I have tried putting the fax machine on a different plid as well as using multiple different data and voice cable runs in the same vicinity.
I have tried reloading the ONS card, manually reseating the card and also replaced the ONS card.
I replaced the kentrox cable that runs from the sx2000 pbx to the kentrox box, replaced the kentrox box with a known working kentrox and also replaced the cable from the kentrox to AT&T's T1 card.
Just now tried replacing the DS1 Formatter in hopes that an unlikely fix would work but still no go.
Here is the last 5 hours
Link is Available

AT&T has tried to work with me a little bit and I believe a few other things but they keep saying that there line is ok.
They tried  a different  T1 card.
I have multiple buildings that I manage that also have T1's to them and the few that also show slips are not high enough to cause problems yet and go figure those are on different circuits on AT&T's side. We do have other buildings as well and go figure here too, the ones that are on the same circuit as the problem T1 aren't showing any slips at all.

Enter the command "net stat"
See what you're synced to.
I suspect that you're clocking off of something you shouldn't be.
So let us know what PLID your t1 is on and post the results of the net stat command.

I checked our other buildings and those say sync source instead of available.

Upon seeing the sync stat I looked to makes sure everything was set right and the above is what I found.

Enter these commands:
"Net set free"
"Net set Auto"

It should come back telling you it is now sync'd with  source 1.

It's been forever ago but I've seen it where I had to reset the clocking.  The commands above is how you do it.

I started looking at those commands.
I did a net stat to see the sync source again including other info that I may need for that.
I then used net set 1 to manually set the source location and it locked on and now shows w/ net stat:

     |  Sync Source     |   Sync Source
 No. |    Location      |      Status
-----+------------------+------------------
  1  |  2  1  2  1      |   sync source

I will watch the slips now to see if they change.

You shouldn't of had to manually set the syn source.  It may not hold.
It should have synced to the primary source automatically.  If it doesn't, that generally means that there are issues with what ever your connected to.   Is this an ATT 'Flex' Circuit?   If it is you may have better luck deleting the sync source all together and let their router clock off of you.

When I was speaking with AT&T earlier trying to fix this they said that our machines are responsible for the timing. I did not ask if theirs would have a timing circuit or not and I did not ask if it was a flex circuit.

I just checked on the pbx. Here's the results:

If you are responsible for the clocking then you need to delete the entry in the Net Sync form.
Try that next.

I navigated to the net sync form and removed the entry for that sync circuit so there weren't any entries in that form.
Navigated back to maintenance entered net stat and it showed the message that the command couldn't work on MASTER, not exact words.
Navigated again back to the net sync form and re-entered that circuit.
Once again navigated back to maintenance and entered net stat again and it showed this with out any other commands entered:
     |  Sync Source     |   Sync Source
 No. |    Location      |      Status
-----+------------------+------------------
  1  |  2  1  2  1      |   sync source

Sorry for so much to read through. I like to be detailed on my notes about the actions taken and or results. I've found it very helpful for me.

That would have been correct.   If there's nothing in the Net Sync form then the system is the master and you can't syn to that T1 - the T1 is not supposed to sync to you.

Remove the PLID again from Net Sync.   Then just let it run for a while to see if that clears the errors.

Just making sure, removing the plid for the sync would prevent phone calls from going out of the building right?
Maybe not right away, but eventually.

If so I will have to wait till after regular hours. Right now the biggest problem that building has is no faxes, phones are still working.

After regular hours I removed the entry from the net sync form so there were no entries listed. Navigated to Digital Links Forms\Network Synchronization and removed the entry in that form and then logged out of the pbx.

Waited 45 minutes then logged back in and re-entered the circuit in the Digital Links Forms\Network Synchronization.
Logged back out again and waited 30 minutes before logging back in.

Checked the slips and they are again on track for the almost 600 an hour.
Entered the net stat command and the status showed available so I entered the net set free command and got this "No action taken, synchronizing source already selected".

I started writing this and went back to make sure that I got the same status and now it shows sync source for the status.

Will check slips again in the morning.

I'm not sure I understand what happened.  Did the slips stop when you removed the Net sync plid?   That's more on the line of what I expected to happen.  With the PLID removed the carrier will clock off of you and you should stop seeing slips.

BTW:  it wouldn't hurt to replace any cables connected either.  I've seen bad cables do this.  Pretty rare but I've seen it.

I just checked this morning. Slips are still there. I had already replaced all cables that could be replaced.
The only good thing that happened so far was that the pbx finally auto selected its sync source yesterday but today again it is saying available and looking at dtstat it appears it went back to sync status available soon after I checked when it auto set to sync source.

Logs from checking this morning.
