Level 2 resets on a CEPT card
« on: July 14, 2011, 08:00:29 AM »
Try this one
I have a dedicated DPNSS trunk on a CEPT card connecting us to a cell phone company

network, my customers are experiencing calls cutting off intermittently, and running a

DTSTAT on the card shows a high number of level 2 resets.  I have now set the card

manbusy and the calls are taking altermate route but does anyone know what conditions

would cause these level 2 resets. The cell phone company is investigating their side but

could the problem be on my card although a reload has been carried out.
I am operating with MS2009-F-UK-00 edition Q23.2.5,

what to you see when you do a "DTS Read <plid> last 24"?
Do you see slips and frame loss?   Is everything 100%?

My guess on this one is that your D-Channel is going up and down.

The link itself, is that going to a router and then to the carrier?  Another gateway?  To the carrier directly?

The screen shot suggest to me that the 1st leg of your link is ok (that's why no slips or errors) but from the next hop to the carrier a span is dropping.

The link is going directly to a third party SDH node then on to the carrier

Forgive my ignorance but I don't know what an 'SDH" node is.
Is that a gateway on your prem?

Apologies I shouldn't have used abbreviations an SDH is a high order MUX which as I understand it converts co-ax to optical for data transfer, I have put a link in which may explain better than me.

Ok, this is my guess:  Your link to your mux is ok.   That's why you don't see slips or frame losses.
But, the link from the MUX to the provider is having problems.  That's why you'd have the L2 resets.

I think this will have to be corrected by your provider.    Nothing you'll be able to do.

Thanks Ralph I've raised a call with the circuit provider and the cell phone company, waiting for their response.

Finally got this sorted I eventually found that the cellphone company owned the circuit so I couldn't raies a call, and at the end of the day the cellphone company found a fault on their kit and did something but didn't tell me what but never mind it's working again, thanks again for your help.
