Caller ID shows CRA ext

92001 goes to a Star app and the goes to a CRA 2503, caller ID shows 2305 and not who's calling. I have Propagate Original Caller ID on almost everything. In Flags, I have Display Caller ID Name and Number. Where else might I look?

Did you try sending the call directly to a phone to see if you get CID there?

Did you hook your buttset up to the pots line to make sure you were getting CID from the CO?

It seems as though you are not receiving any.

Yes, I am. Hook my buttset up to the LS, how wil that tell me the Caller ID. Otherwise, I am looking at it all wrong

With your buttset hooked up in monitor mode, speaker on but hook switch off, you will hear CNG between the first and second incoming ring; that is the CID packet. If you don’t hear anything then you are not receiving CID.

For some reason no one thinks it’s important to teach new technicians basic telephony; it isn’t your fault. If you have an older more experienced technician in your office then it would behoove you to learn as much as you can from them before they retire; it will save you a lot of trouble and time.

sorry, I hooked the butt set up to the LS and put it into monitor mode and called in and I have no fax sound. So I guess that tells me that the carrier is not sending caller Id

Correct, and I guess I should correct my previous statement for edification purposes.

Our technicians call it CNG times, but technically that is incorrect. The tones you will hear are actually the FSK tones; Frequency Shift Keying. It sounds similar to a fax or modem synchronization packets, but it has a definite pattern to it.

The CNG tone is a single frequency tone a fax sends out periodically while waiting for another fax to respond with its CED tone. Of course older manual fax machines may not even transmit the CNG tone.
