Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: Mitel 3300 - Question
« on: February 04, 2016, 10:04:14 PM »
Hey there

Is there an option to have a line ring a 3 times then transfer to another extension at the main campus? Employee doesn’t want to miss calls and still have the phone ring here at his other office.

I am using 7.2 software and 3300.
There are more ways to do this than I can shake a stick at, each with strengths and drawbacks... I am guessing that this person uses 2 offices?

Call Forward No Answer -  Can be done from the phone, and will literally give you exactly what you asked for.

Call Rerouting - Fixed in the system, 1st Alternative would be other extension, 2nd alternative could be voicemail
Person Ring Group - Both ring at the same time, one is the "prime number"
Hunt Group - A list of extensions (1, 2, 10, 20, etc) called in order
Multicall Key Appearance - Can be immediate or delayed ring of either extension on either phone
Hot Desking - The user can have one extension number, and just login to a device wherever they are on campus, and their extension, buttons, voicemail, and everthing else moves with them

There are probably several more, these are just off the top of my head. My question would be, what exactly do you want it to in more detail... do you want the user to have one or two extension numbers, do you want there to be one or two voicemail boxes (and which should calls go to), does the user use more than one other location sometimes, etc.

The 3300 can do a lot in the way of call routing, we just need to know exactly what you want it to do.

Even if they can be, these things should not be changed... and they should also not be a security concern since they should be opened in your firewall to the outside world.

Every unencrypted connection is not a security risk, this is not an information or file server, and these ports and connections are of very little consequence if your network is properly secured and you didn't do something foolish like put the MCD in the DMZ or something. Your security audit does not comprehend what these are and what they are for, just that they show up on a scan as "encrypted" and a potential threat, which they are not.

Mitel Software Applications / Re: Softphones not being seen on MBG

Go to Status - File Transfers and download the TNA (Teleworker Network Analyzer) and run it from the remote site and check the results.

Do you have SIP enabled in MBG?

NOTE: I am moving this to the Applications area, it is more correct.

Sure, the basic connectivity is simple, just make it a generic SIP phone with 4 multicall appearances and away you go

MiVoice Office 250/Mitel 5000 / Re: Conference Meet-Me Ports
« on: February 03, 2016, 10:40:02 AM »
Remember that ad-hoc conferencing and Meet Me conferencing are very different animals, although both use resources.

A single user in a Meet Me conference consumes 2 IP resources, one for the user and one for the MOH source they get connected to when only single user is connected, as more users connect the MOH resource is dropped, so 1 user in a Meet Me Conference consumes 2 "resources", 2 consumes 2, 3 consumes 3, etc. up to 20 in a single conference, and a total of 40 conference resources (on 6.0 or higher software, previous versions have less resources)

SIP On Mitel / Re: 5320 IP Phones with SIP
« on: February 03, 2016, 10:31:05 AM »
The phones need to pull firmware for SIP, you basically just told the phone to go into SIP mode, now you need to give it the appropriate firmware, language file, and configuration files via TFTP. Unfortunately I don't think the 5320 has (or ever had) a SIP mode, but it uses a unified bootloader similar to the 5330/5340 sets which do (or did) have SIP functionality, thus that options still shows in the menus but it should NEVER be used. You likely will never get a 5320 to work for this application.

TBH, I would never use a Mitel MiNET set for SIP by choice, they haven't been supported for MANY years for this application... get a Polycom, Mitel/Aastra (Aastra models only!), Yealink, Grandstream, snom, Panasonic, or some manufacturer who has support for generic SIP applications, plug in your IPs and credentials and enjoy.

I guess I am confused here, are these phones going through the MBG or connected to a VPN or a routed connection of some kind? You say you have some kind of "short haul data link" between the two sites, is this a metro WAN link of some kind?

If there is no NAT translation between the phones and 3300, just a routed connection in private LAN space, there is no need for the MBG at all. MGB sits on the network edge to handle NAT translation to the 3300 from the public internet and is intended for phones coming in from the public internet, not phones on a routed connection back to the network.

Either way, the MBG is working properly for SIP, is likely not the cause of any audio issues in this, but you can run the MBG Teleworker testing tool (available inside the TW blade or server for download) to make sure all ports are properly translated.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: Call forwarding profile
« on: January 29, 2016, 10:34:55 AM »
Yeah I know you can do that, but correct me if I'm wrong - you can configure multiple profiles on your phone by doing -> SuperKey -> Call Forwarding -> Profiles -> New Profiles
For example I have 2 - one for forwarding to my cellphone and one to forwarding to one of my colleagues. But all of this is done on the phone
The one you see in the Call Forwarding Profile on the 3300, I believe is the Default one
You can only see the default one in the web interface... and only the 5330 (I think, might be a different model) can have multiple profiles in some software revisions, but this goes away at higher revisions of software and all models only have one default profile, although you can set different profiles for Busy/NA.

The only reason I know this is we did an upgrade for a 11 site cluster with 1000 phones, and those multiple profiles went away... and they were not very happy.

« on: January 28, 2016, 11:36:26 PM »
Thanks for the information.

Can someone explain how MBG works? Since it's connecting from the user's home, I'm assuming I have to configure firewall rule to allow that connection, or does MBG have it's own way to contact the 3300 controller?

I was told to program the external IP of MBG onto the phone.
MBG is the Mitel Border Gateway... the best way to set this up to put it on the edge (border) of your network, the box (or VM) would contain 2 NICs... one on the public internet, and one to the voice VLAN. The MBG handles all the translations, you don't touch your firewall, the MBG is a full blown firewall as well.

Phone <-> MBG <-> 3300

The MBG can also sit in the DMZ (a TRUE DMZ) but to be honest we have more issues setting it up this way than with 2 NICs.

And yes, you put the phone in Teleworker mode, plug in the public IP address of the MBG, and your basically done other than possibly a one time TW ADMIN password entry, and the phone just works 99% of the time (there are occasional issues with the remote end firewall, but it's got to be pretty locked down, not a typical SOHO router).

hello,

went to add number 21 today and received the following.

Number of nodes allowed in the admin group has been exceeded. the admin group mgt has stopped. reduce the number of nodes in the admin group to 20 to re-start the admin group mgt application.

Could someone tell me what this is all about?

Thanks,
The description is pretty straight forward... you have to many nodes in your default admin group, the maximum is 20, make a second group and split up the nodes between the 2 groups.

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone have found a menu entry where they can edit call forwarding profiles ?
Pressing the “Super Key” selecting “Call Forwarding” create a new profile

Thanks
What exactly are you asking? Because it kind of looks like you answered your own question...

Acejavelin,

Sorry to hear it didn't go too smooth and it is a little late now to change this, but go in and look at what compression the Voice Processor is set to. We normally keep all of ours on the G.726 (32 kbps) and I rarely have any issues with the recordings. If the System changes it when it goes to a PS-1 then you may only need to change the compression there to fix the bad audio issues.

Of course it is too late now since they rerecorded everything, but it may be valuable information for future conversions. As for the bad mailboxes I have run into that as well and the only solution I found was to delete and recreate them just as you have done.

The big question is did it fix their original problem.

Thanks,

TE
Both the new and old are set to G.726, I think it's the default.

And yes, it fixed all their performance issue, the system runs smooth as silk now!

Thanks for the info... wish I would have known that yesterday. The customer had all their scripts and had someone record them over.

I wonder if this could be part of my voicemail issues as well, some users are complaining that calls are getting dropped when transferred to their mailbox. The only thing that seems to fix it is deleting and recreating the mailbox, then it is fine.

Acejavelin,

Just do a full backup to your laptop and then install the PS-1. Convert the Database to use the PS-1 as well as upgrading it and then reupload and test.

Thanks,

TE
Well,  that went fine except about 80% of my greetings did not restore correctly and just sound like garbage, but a few did work fine. I used the save everything to PC option instead of storing the greetings to a USB key. Wouldn't be too bad except this customer has about 70 call routing announcements.
