This is now fixed. It has been 3 days now since the fix and the problem has not returned.

For the solution, we deleted the hunt group and recreated it. We also noticed an error in our call routing setup (we hadn't properly told it where to send no answer / busy calls). After doing both of those, everything is now fine.

We did first try the steps that you outlined, but it wasn't delivering the voicemail on no answers. That being said, before we got too deep in it to really figure out why, we recreated the hunt group since it had been deleted, and noticed an error we made previously in our routing for these phones (we weren't telling it where to go on no answer calls), and then the problem was resolved, so we were all set then anyway.

thanks!!

Thanks for your detailed answer; that is very helpful.

Schedule-wise, I think I'm going to wait until Wednesday to try this, so it'll be some days until I reply back to confirm, but sounds like you've got it.

thanks!

I tested it as you described:
(1) Made sure no voicemails in the box of the hunt group.
(2) Then Left vm in the voicemail box of the hunt group.
(3) And sure enough, upon doing that, the light on the phone lit up.

So, it did behave exactly as you predicted. Which is good, as it sounds like you know what this means.

The voicemail is part of the 3300 itself (no seperate system / no seperate software for voicemail). So, I think that means Embedded.

The phone itself is not a member of a hunt group, however 2 keys one the phone are a member of the same hunt group. The keys on the phone are line type "Key System". There are two keys because the hunt group has two lines and we want them to be able to answer both lines.

There are a couple of other people in this particular office with their phones setup the same way who have not experienced the issue.

We have a Mitel 3300 and the user has a Mitel 5340 IP phone. As of about a week ago or so, the phone is always flashing in the morning when she arrives to work indicating that she has a message but when she checks voicemail, it does not have a message. Simply checking voicemail is enough to clear it and it does not happen again until the next morning upon her arrival to work. I have observed this for 4 days now to confirm it is really happening.

The past three times, instead of calling the voicemail, I have used the "messaging" button on the phone to see what I could find out. The "messaging" button is one of the buttons that appears on the LCD display above the programmable buttons ("message" isn't a programmed button, it automatically appears if the phone has voicemail). I get the following:

1) If I press "messaging" I get choices to:

- Read Message (this calls voicemail; if I go into her voicemail there is nothing but it clears the light)

OR

- Erase Message (this erases it and clears the light)

OR

- Call (this calls voicemail; if I go into her voicemail there is nothing but it clears the light)

OR

- More Msg... (this shows 2 more screens of info indicating it is "3:01, (today's date), at 3960 (which is voicemail)

SO - I think the voicemail system is triggering the message light on her phone at 3:01 each morning. Not sure why though?

We looked at these today and they are already set correctly. We talked with out Mitel authorized vendor later this afternoon and they advised us that the 1 ring is not negotiable for the Mitel 5000 system. That the option when someone is on the phone is either 1 ring or no ring (straight to voicemail). So, we're thinking we'll just need to accept that.

However, to help, we now have it set so that after 3 rings if not answered, it is going to a second phone which then will also ring. So, that will get us most of the way there and is acceptable alternative.

Thanks for posting!

Thank your for your advice. Tried that today and you are correct, that solves how to do that.

We had been using an Inter-Tel Axxess phone system, but it was time to replace it so as of the beginning of this summer we now have a Mitel (formerly Inter-Tel) 5000 phone system instead.

We are using the old phones from the Axxess system since they still work with the Mitel 5000 (the InterTel Axxess Standard Digital phones, model 550.4400). Also, we have 11 copper phone lines coming into the system (we do not have a PRI).

In the Axxess system, on the office phones we had a button programmed on each phone to represent an incoming external call to that phone. So for example, one of the office staff picks up a call from an outside line, the button would then appear green indicating she was on that line. And if she put it on hold, it would flash green.

In the Mitel 5000 system, we see how we can program a button to represent a specific outside line (i.e. one of the copper lines), but this means it lights up anytime someone is calling in or using that line and only works for calls on that specific line. So, it isn't the same thing.

Anyone know how to do what we were doing on the Axxess?

If we need newer phones (i.e. VOIP) to do this, that might be acceptable, though prefer not as they like the phones they have now and the phones they have now include the DSS Op Board (side car to the phone) with lots of additionally programmable buttons so they can see literally a light for everyone of the 100 or so phones in the building.

We had been using an Inter-Tel Axxess phone system, but it was time to replace it so as of the beginning of this summer we now have a Mitel (formerly Inter-Tel) 5000 phone system instead.

During day mode, incoming external calls ring live at the receptionist's phone (they don't use the auto-attendant; they want a live person to answer). With the Axxess system, if the receptionist was on a call, a new incoming call would keep audibly ringing like a normal call when it came in (which would keep audibly reinforcing to the reptionist that a new call was coming in so she could put the current call on hold). But, with the Mitel 5000, she only gets one audible ring on an incoming call. The caller calling in still "hears" ringing on their end of course,  but the receptionist on our end only gets 1 ring.

So, what they need is for the phone to keep ringing on the receptionist's phone like it did with the Axxess for incoming external calls eve when the receptionist is already on the phone. This reinforces to her that a call is coming in and also reinforces it to everyone else in the office since they too hear it keep ringing and pick it up if she is busy (the multiple rings is what catches their attention). We did already program all their phones to show a light when calls are coming in for a visual reinforcement, but the audible reinforcement is very important to them (the light isn't doing it). The others in the office don't want their phone to ring, they just want to overhear the receptionist's phone ringing.

We are using the old phones from the Axxess system since they still work with the Mitel 5000 (the InterTel Axxess Standard Digital phones, model 550.4400). If we needed the receptionist to have a newer phone (i.e. VOIP) to do this, that might be acceptable, though I don't think the phone model itself is the issue.

Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.
