We have a MiVB 8.0 and were going to upgrade to 9.1, but the audit tool says that the 5020 extensions for the voicemail port for the NuPoint VM (release 16.0) aren't supported. Nupoint 16.0 apparently only uses the two extension types not supported.

I have looked about and I haven't really found anything definitive about whether NuPoint release 18.0 will work with MiVB 9.1.

Has anyone had experience with this combo?

Our local County Sheriff dispatchers often transfer calls from incoming caller to officers and sometimes they perform a blind transfer and the blind transfers work flawlessly, but if they stay on the call with the other parties and another call comes in when they leave the call they say it drops the other parties.

When I worked for my local telco, I'm sure I knew this (retired four years ago)...but what is the procedure for them to quickly exit the call to answer another call?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / find SIP extensions in MiVB 8.0
« on: November 06, 2023, 10:50:59 AM »
I've seemed to have gone brain dead...I am wanting to locate the extensions on a system that are SIP.

I was thinking there was a SIP category under the Advanced Config, but I don't see it and I didn't seem to be able to locate SIP extensions under maintenance commands.

Is there a way to locate extensions by SIP category?

We have a couple of TA7102 terminal adapters that work wonderfully for voice, but when I tried to connect them to local fax machines, the faxes are failing. I thought it was a SIP trunk issue until I attempted to send faxes internally and received the same failure. When I dial the fax number, I hear the outbound fax tome start, I hear it ring the far end, but as soon as the far end answers with a fax signal, I receive a busy tone and the call drops. I have made a couple of minor changes in the media setting with no affect.

The locations that fax in our campus system are remote to the MXE III, so analog extensions off the back is not available.

I have gone brain dead on how to make a ringer ring when the main phone rings apparently...I have a 5330e, ext 3xxx, and I want to add a ringer (ext 9xxx) to ring when the kitchen phone rings.

I don't seem to be able to add the ringer as a key on his phone as a multicall or single line key with "ring" defined, so I am thinking about a personal ring group. It has been years since I worked with personal ring groups and I was thinking that I could build the group with the 3xxx extension number as the group number and then add the ringer as a member, but it tells me the 3xxx is defined elsewhere.

What is the best method to make the ringer ring when the 5330 phone rings?

Thanks, Jim

We are a county government agency with a dispatch area that receives transfers and calls from our local 911 as well as other police agencies and on a very rare occasion two dispatchers will answer the same call where they can both hear and respond.

This happened last night on an external call and initially one of the dispatchers that had answered muted the call, but when that dispatcher chose to hang up from the call, apparently she was the one that the system showed as the call owner for the call disconnected in mid conversation.

The call came in from an outside agency though the SIP trunks to a call tree to a ring group number for dispatch...is there a setting in the system where I can set one of the dispatch sets in the ring group with a higher priority so if that same scenario happens again, the system will "choose" which set is allowed to own the call?

A couple of years ago, our system was migrated from PRIs (two) to SIP trunking.

One of the results of that move was a major trunk alarm as 85% of the trunks are offline.

I came onboard a few months ago as an inhouse telephone tech guy and I disabled the 46 PRI channels to no effect.

What procedures would I actually need to do to get rid of the trunk alarm so we will actually be able to know when there is an actual major alarm going on in the system.

Occasionally I need to delete an extension appearance from all sets to do something else with it and if it is a key appearance on several sets I find myself combing through dozens of sets to find all appearances. All maintenance tells me when I choose locate it is that its a non-prime broadcast number.

Is there a way to see all the sets that particular extension appears on?

Our system has a couple hundred phones and several dozen of them are 5330e. It seems in the last couple of months clumps of these 5330e phone started suddenly losing contrast to the point I'm beginning to wonder if there's a setting in the controller that might affect this. I don't know whether it matters but all the affected phones are on streamlines and dongles.

I did some controller maintenance night before last and after it rebooted and the offices opened in the morning, I found that there were a few more that came back with no contrast...even with the contrast setting all the way up.

A couple of them I was able to reboot them and the contrast restored, but the other are still super dim.

I have downloaded a MiVB software installer tool for 8.0 software onto my Windows 10 laptop, restarted the machine and there in no exe file or shortcut to open the tool up with...what am I missing here?

I was noticing one of our MXE III has no card battery inside (frontward from the i-button) and I was wondering if Mitel still uses those or if its a hold-over.

If they still use them, does anyone know what battery it takes?

I am an old retiree with a crummy memory and I can't remember...assuming the phones register to the system using DHCP. Is the controller address they look for the RTC address or the layer 2 switch IP?

Thanks, Jim

We have a spare MXE III with RTC, SATA Raid, etc that our local county government ordered in case of hardware failure.

I am wondering if there were a scenario where the MXE III failed, could I just swap HDDs from one cabinet to another nad have it come up and work, or does the Mitel software care what environment it lives in?

I have a RAID alarm on the 2nd disk and according to a knowledge base article I potentially need to check the 1st disk for sector faults...how do I do this?

from Mitel:

If the alarm occurs on the secondary drive, check
the primary drive for faults. (In some cases, the
primary drive has a sector error while the
secondary drive is fault free.)

(On the RAID array, the left light is blue, what appears to be a center light is not on and the right light is blue) I don't fully recall, but I was thinking that before when I had a bad drive that one of the LEDs was a different color.

Thanks, Jim

I discovered one of our 250g HDD is bad in the SATA RAID (#2).

Four or five years ago I replaced one of them and at the time I was thinking that Mitel said the model numbers of the drives have to match, etc, so we ordered a matching model and I replaced the defective drive. I don't recall the particulars, like whether it auto mirrored, etc.

Looking about on forums it seems that possibly the model numbers don't have to match and we potentially could use a drive that is larger than 250g...however, in KB 06-5191-00213 it says:

Hard Drives Must Match in Size

Both hard drives in a redundant hard drive MXe Controller/MXe Server must be the same size. They can have different manufacturers, but the drive sizes must match. When comparing hard disk sizes, ensure that the accessible capacity of the drives is the same. For example, a 40 GB drive from one manufacturer could have a different accessible capacity than that of a 40 GB drive from another manufacturer.

Any guidance would be super helpful.
