Title: How to make an analog direct line NOT dial 9 first.
Post by: alisal5 on December 26, 2017, 02:10:50 PM
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Please advise me on how to make an analog direct line not dial "9" first.  Kinda like an old POTS line.  I have some clients with old school  credit card lines that don't have an option of dialing 9 first.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Equipment
Mitel 3300 MXe III

Phone
Device Type = Analog
Service Level = Full
Basic set-up.

FYI - I have already tried adding "89" in the hotline area of "user and device attributes".

Don't think I've seen a credit card machine that couldn't add a nine and Ive been doing this for some time

What number are the dialling?
Assuming it's just one number at their bank, just add that number to the Digits Dialled form, so they don't need a '9'.

Or just make the extension a hotline to that number, then the PBX won't care what it dials at all.

I'm trying to accomplish the same thing for a fax machine that is guest facing.

We have three 3300's in a casino/hotel, and there is a guest facing fax machine in our business center. I'm trying to make that machine not need to dial a 9. Most of our others are big xerox's that can handle adding the 9 for the users, but this one can't.

If the fax can be used to dial any number at all, then you will have a permanent risk of the number being dialled conflicting with an internal extension.

The user will have to enter the "9" themselves.

The idea would be for the fax to ONLY be able to dial outside numbers, and not be able to dial internal extensions. After all, why would you send a fax to an in-house extension?

That's fairly straight forward.
Create three tenants (I used to all ways do this with interconnect restriction).
1 for the trunks
1 for the internal extensions
1 for the fax.

Allow all tenants access to the trunks.
Disallow the fax from the internal extension.

But the fax will still need to dial 9....

Very good question - and a question that should be put to whoever designed the fax machine that can't add the digit to seize an external line.

You could give the fax machine a CoR that is denied by every single route, then add a new route to every single route list that only allows the fax CoR and points to a loopback trunk with a digit mod that absorbs 0 and inserts "9".
You'll go a bit mad trying to ensure a route list exists for every potential digits dialled though. And if you have any unknown length digits dialled (eg international) then you will have black holes in your dialling scheme.

I thought the goal was to keep it from ringing internal extensions.

OK, so lets try this:
Set up a loop back trunk that rings to DISA.
Set up an ARS route that uses that trunk.  Delete all digits, add a Pause and a 9 in the Digit Mod.
Create a system speed dial that points to that ARS Route.
Ring Down your fax line to that speed dial.

This way, when the fax goes off hook, it will ring down to DISA dial, the system will insert a 9 for you.
