Change Default Trunks
« on: April 21, 2017, 02:53:59 PM »
We are moving from PRI to SIP trunks.  We still have the PRIs setup and functional but want to start sending calls out of the SIP trunks the week prior to cutting over incoming lines.  I have two questions.
1. How do I change the outgoing extension en mass so we don't need to do this on each individual phone?
2. How do I change the default outgoing extension so that new extensions automagically use the SIP trunks?

If you're using ARS (Automatic Route Selection) it's really easy.  Your SIP trunks are in a SIP Peers/SIPTrunk group.  Go to SYSTEM/NUMBERING PLAN/Facility Groups/Local/Trunk Groups/Nodes, add the SIP group and drag bit above your existing group.  Repeat for all the other facility group choices.  When you know all is well you can go back and remove the PRI group.

It seems we are not using ARS.  Extensions get a default outgoing extension which is currently our PRI trunk group.  I can manually set it on each extension to use the new TG but I still have the problem of default values when new extensions are created.  Any thoughts on how to ensure new extensions use the new TG?

Any reason not to use ARS?  That would allow you to put both your PRI and SIP trunks in the facility groups for now, then remove the PRI later.
Regardless, you'll find the outgoing trunk group in SYSTEM/DEVICES AND FEATURE CODES/<ext no.>/ASSOCIATED EXTENSIONS/OUTGOING.  You'll find the trunk group pilot number here (92000 would be ARS, by the way).  Fix one phone, then when the list of phones is in the right pane right-click on the fixed phone. Then click on the first other phone, shift-click on the last phone to highlight the whole list.  Right-click on one of them, choose PASTE.  Clear all the choices except OUTGOING and complete the paste.

By default, the lowest numbered trunk group is inserted for outgoing access when new stations are created. It doesn't matter if you're using ARS or not.

It's not a big deal. There are numerous items to be defined when creating new stations.

stevezemlicka,

The easiest way to handle this issue is to create a Copy/Paste extension in the system that you can use as a Template for all of the "common" default settings for you phones. Then when you create a new phone use the Copy/Paste functions to set those settings on the new phone(s).

Keep in mind that you will want to remove the check box next to the following as a minimum:
Passcode
Transfer Recall Destination

Depending on how the new phone is being used you may need to uncheck other flags as well.

Thanks,

TE
