Lync instead of UCA with Mitel 3300?

Has there been any write ups on how to get Lync working with the Mitel 3300?  Currently, they are both stand-alone islands.  Doing various searching, I only find minuscule bits and pieces of information.  Live Border Gateway was mentioned a few times, then I read:

"If you're using DirectSIP, LBG is not necessary.  You will be using Enterprise Voice.  LBG is only for RCC."

Not sure what RCC is..  our mitel has IP phones, and we have enterprise licenses for all the users.  What I'd like is for people using Lync to get screen pops when their phones ring, and be able to dial via Lync (sort of how UCA works).  The problem with UCA is that I have to maintain a separate set of accounts, since I cant find anywhere that it can authenticate against LDAP/AD.  So we're looking to ditch UCA and the 500 user licenses we purchased for it.  (kind of a shame)

I believe that RCC = "Remote Call Control"

I've also been playing around with Lync. I think it would make a great UCA replacement, but i too have been unable to find any solid documentation on how to make it work.

It says this in the UCA 5.1 Admin guide under Optional Third-Party Integrated Applications:

Instant Messaging Clients: UC Advanced includes its own integrated chat component. It
also supports launching the following Instant Messaging clients when they are installed and
running on the user's computer:
• Windows Live Messenger 8.5, 2009, and 2011
• Microsoft Office Communicator 2005, 2007, and Lync 2010

Federation Servers: Federation provides a communication path between a single UC
Server and one or more external IM servers to provide UC Advanced users with presence
and chat features for external IM contacts (see page 29). UC Advanced supports IM and
presence federation with the following servers:
• Microsoft Office Communicator Server (OCS) 2007 R2
• Microsoft Lync 2010 Server
• IBM Lotus Sametime® Server 7.0, 8.0.x, 8.5, 8.5.1, and 8.5.2 and Fix Packs

Mitel released the following document: Configure the Mitel LBG 3.2.0.9 with Microsoft Lync 2010.  Document id: 11-5159-00074.

Here are the requirements:
Mitel 3300 MCD – Mxe Platform 10.2.0.26_2  (MCD 4.2.x.x)
Mitel Live Business Gateway 3.2.0.9
Microsoft Lync 2010 4.0.7577.0

There may be additional updates to the original document.

The Mitel LBG will provide the Remote Call Control (RCC) needed to allow those with Mitel phones to use the "Click to Call/Click To Answer" functionality that those who use the Lync client enjoy.

If you go to MOL there are guides for configuring Lync to an MCD. My only concern is having to give up a peice of your brain when you use anything from Microsoft.
